Canoeing the Cut
They look like they are having fun.....I prefer boats that are a little larger !
A happy photo Dennis.
They were happy Helen, she asked me if I was hoping that she would capsize to make a better picture!
Who would have thought to see this in days gone by when the canal was for industry. Its now been replaced with fun activities... can't be bad. At one time it wasn't even nice to live near the canal in most parts, now it's a sought after area.
: Veronica the canals in our area are great but they could be better if the CRT spent as much money maintaining them as they do down south.
I spend a lot of time on them and I see many canoeist, and paddleboarders using it, they even having a trail now called the Desmond Family Canoe Trail were you can paddle coast to coast, they have built a landing at Wigan Pier so they can easily get the canoes out of the water.
Good one Dennis, don't you think apart from the almost still water canals these day look more and more like rivers. What with the growth of vegetation, trees and shrubs they no longer have that straight cut appearance. When we were kids the straight lines of the canal bank were very clear to see.
You’re right Walt, there are places where you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the canal and a natural river.
Down south always fare better than us up north Mick, it's always been the same. Having said that we have some beautiful countryside up here, that's nicer than down there.
Wobbly boats these days seem to have been mastered, but to think of them going out across a choppy sea.
Great photo, looks like they're enjoying themselves. Thanks Dennis.
And i didn't capsize! Love that canal, the electric blue dragonflies are fab. You get to see everything from a totally different view at a different pace.
Is that you Louise?
Hi Dennis, yes ????
I hope you don’t mind me using this photo Louise.
No its fine, my friend spotted it! Fluke eh?
