How about those stairs. We could have used these when we were kids and wanted to raid the Top Lock Kids. We had an annual fight for "Wochie", a lot of shouting an stone throwing, twelve year- olds blowing of steam. They once chased us back to Finger Post, Good old days.

The Friday maths problem ! How many trips up make an Everest ?

Comment by: DTease on 24th April 2020 at 08:23

Before the steps were put in we kids used to slide down that slope on pieces of tin salvaged from the tip which was a bit further over.
O the folly of youth!

The steps we could have run up as children look daunting now!

Comment by: Alan on 24th April 2020 at 08:49

It just needs tidying that's all.

Comment by: Gary on 24th April 2020 at 08:55

Don't remember these - anyone know when they were put in?
All I can remember is climbing the old colliery scree.

Comment by: kath on 24th April 2020 at 09:10

great photo. At least the barriers stop you tumbling all the way down!

Comment by: Johnny on 24th April 2020 at 09:30

Not recommended for mountain bikes, then !

Comment by: Mick on 24th April 2020 at 09:32

Have to woochie your steps if you climbing up them

DTease
We used to take our Mam's EPNS tea trays especially if snowed !!

I don't know that area, but there's many an area like that around Wigan. I went for a walk with my grandson a while back, he could run all the way up steps such as these without stopping - I had to rest on an old tree half way up... Oh! To be young again...

If the Woochie was up here in Shevy, they would have a dedicated group of volunteers named, Friend of the Woochie to keep it tidy and well maintained

Comment by: Ivor on 24th April 2020 at 12:03

Mick thats because you lot have nothing better to do than potter about all day

Comment by: DTease on 24th April 2020 at 12:53

Johnny, about twenty years ago I carried my bike up those steps and rode it across the top. When I say ‘rode’ it would be more accurate to say that sometimes the bike carried me and sometimes I carried the bike!
But we both got to the other end.
Sadly, I would not like to try it now.

Mick, why do think Shevy and Standish are so brilliant? They are both only former pit villagers like everywhere else round here.Smacks of insecurity to me if you have to be constantly bolstering your (already massive) ego.

Comment by: WN1 Standisher on 24th April 2020 at 14:29

Steady on Kim, what's Standish done at you ? :)

Comment by: Maureen on 24th April 2020 at 14:50

Kim..he does it for one purpose..to get attention..he must be as you say insecure.

Comment by: Kim on 24th April 2020 at 18:13

I'm sure you're spot on Maureen, attention seeking.Standish and Shevy have done nothing to me,it's Mick's constant bolstering of these two that I find immensely irritating.

Comment by: Mick on 24th April 2020 at 19:04

Dont let him get to you, its bad for you blood pressure.

Comment by: Kim on 24th April 2020 at 19:23

Not worth the negative energy.

Comment by: Philip G. on 24th April 2020 at 19:50

Poet, Would you accept 6,506 steps as your answer?

Comment by: Poet on 25th April 2020 at 19:30

Where's my red biro ?

Comment by: Philip G. on 26th April 2020 at 08:31

Poet, I now have that sinking feeling that your poser wasn't Quiz of the Day and that it was, instead, your playful view of something read.
I'm in the process of drawing out one of your PaD's, in readiness for a watercolour. It's been quite a while since I last did one - I'll bet the Pro's envy the amateurs' ability to choose 'when to go'. Keep well.

Just kidding Phil. A very clever figure to arrive at. All my maths homework was returned to me in red ink.
