The old and the (relatively) new. 200 + year old stonework with a mid 20th century water pipe to the left. Many walk over those arches, fewer have seen them.

DOUGLAS

River! Brandy coloured beck
Born in swaddling heather
Giddy down peaty ghylls you pour.
Your cry the only sound
In the monkish silence of the moor.
Would your trek be narrow or broard
And wander far from whence you spout?
Your fate was to meet with Yarrow and Tawd
By weir and sluice and Wigan soot.
Yet you could have been another Lune
Had you found a different route.

Fair consolation for this years cancelled Poohsticks World Championship, Mick. Now which Poohstick is yours?

You can just about see the soup pipe that runs from the old Heinz factory in Standish to the new one in Kitt Green.
The pipe used to carry the soup that was made in Standish factory to be canned in the new Kitt Green factory.
When it was change over day the soup used to get mixed up so some colouring a curry powder was added and these batches was sold as Mulligatawny.
