Lovely photo.
Mind you, the older end of my relatives in Aspull would never have called it a bench. Always a "form."

Gary - I've not heard that word "Form " since I was in school. I wonder if it is a word still used?

Comment by: Ron D on 15th April 2019 at 09:14

Cripples not aloud in here.

Comment by: DTease on 15th April 2019 at 09:37

Tell the Council Mick, they will put a blue plaque on it saying “Mick wos here” anno domini 2019.

Comment by: Veronica on 15th April 2019 at 12:43

Ron D are they not 'aloud' because the peace and quiet will be disturbed?
Is the bench in memory of Lady Mabel and her true love? I bet their ghosts sit on that bench after their ramblings at Hawthorn time....

Comment by: Gary on 15th April 2019 at 13:04

Kath - I still use it. Often produces strange looks!
There were "forms" down Bolton Road Aspull as far as th'owd co op.

Thats true Ron Cripples not aloud in here and its also hard work to get a bike past these silly gates.
The other day I was coming from Rabbit Rocks and had to life my bike over the three old railway sleepers which are 12 " high, I slipped and fell inside the sleepers that are like a box with my bike on top of me
I was stuck and couldnt free up my arm to push the bike off me, only thing I could do was slide it by using my fingers until I had enough space to free up my arms

I remember back in the 50's/60's every chippy had a "form".

Comment by: Veronica on 15th April 2019 at 15:07

Not wishing to be disrespectful but I think the word 'Cripple' shouldn't really be used these days - so I've been informed.....

Has the Woodland Trust now put up a gate at the top end of Hall Lane by the side of Bernard's, if not then you could get a disabled scooter along the path from there.

Pity someone wasn't there at the time with a video camera Mick, you could have featured on You've Been Framed.

Comment by: Veronica on 15th April 2019 at 16:40

Every a clogger had a form as well- you could sit and read a comic whilst waiting for clogs to be 'clogged' and smell the leather at the same time! ;0))

Comment by: Veronica on 15th April 2019 at 16:48

I think a 'form' was without a back... The kind most schools used...we weren't meant to be comfortable on them.

Comment by: Mick on 15th April 2019 at 16:55

The word Cripple was used by a Cripple who gets out and about and takes photo for Wiganworlds Photo a Day.

Comment by: Pw on 15th April 2019 at 16:58

I always thought a form had no back,I remember putting them out at school

Comment by: Xpat on 15th April 2019 at 19:07

I would never use that word . Made me cringe just to read it . That word is vile and inhuman!

Comment by: Veronica on 15th April 2019 at 20:23

Disabled or disability is the correct term to use.

Comment by: Xpat on 15th April 2019 at 21:11
