Photo-a-Day (Friday, 12th October, 2018)
many a sad soul have passed through there
My Uncle was in there in the early 1960s when I was 10. It was Frog Lane Hospital then but no-one ever wanted to go in as it always carried the stigma of having once been the workhouse.
I always think of my grandfather when Frog Lane is mentioned. I don't know what it was like in 1949 but that's where he died. A sad place indeed.
A phrase I heard so often, from Great Uncles and Aunts - "no mother uh mine is gooin i' Frog Loan."
I remember my grandfather being transferred to Frog Lane from Billinge Hospital in 1950. The first day he was there my parents visited and immediately discharged him. I can vividly remember my dad saying "He's not stopping in here"!!
