Looks good fun....reminder of the Wigan fair wheel. Lovely shot.

The trees are in the way of the photo.

Good photo. This reminds me of when the old fairs would come to Wigan, someone would see a painted lorry and the word would go around like wildfire "the Fair's coming, the Fair's coming, then the weather would change and it would rain.

When I see the Big Wheel it reminds me of the one and only time I went on it at the fair. Did not like it one bit......and lost a shoe in the bargain - maybe because I have never liked heights. How people can ride on the 'Big One' at Blackpool makes me shudder!!!
Good photo!

Silcock's Fair came twice a year, once in the Spring and once in the tingling Autumn dusk. How exciting and glamorous it was when we were children, but as we grew up we began to notice the missing bulbs on the lit-up stalls and we realised the fair was just rather tattered gaiety set between back-yards and factory walls. Then we got old and, in memory, the glitter and the bulbs sparkle for us once more.

Veronica,I've never been on the big one..I feel sick just imagining it..but some years ago we were walking down the pier..there's a big wheel there,Cliff said come on let's go on..after lots of 'nos' I eventually gave in ( a bit of I'll show him) we got stuck at the top of the top for ten minutes ..and it was blowing a gale..and I loved it,I surprised myself..mind you I think my bravado has waned a bit since then .ha ha.

Maureen you are made of staunch stuff! Irene you are right- the glitter of the fair will never tarnish in our memories! It's a bit like the dance halls of our youth at night -mysterious with subdued lighting -but go inside one in the daytime and it was a different story.

Alan. Did you expect the photographer to cut down the trees before he took the photo? Maybe you could pop-up to Haigh Hall and sort out the job for him? Don't some mothers have 'em!

Lynn I'll try and spell it out for you. If Harry would have taken the photo a little to the right, away from the trees, he would have had a clear shot. Some women eh.

Thanks all, I don't like the fair rides either, black peas were ok though. H.

Thats it Lynn you tell him....!

Alan. Why should he change his position just for the sake of you? If you don't like HIS choice of shot, take a photo yourself! I think the trees had to the reality of the photo.
