Nice old dog. Gives the impression he should be wearing a flat cloth cap with a pint of bitter in front of him.

Good photo.

I've just been reading a book about a Bargeman who often carried his dog for company, one day during strong winds the dog fell into the canal and because the barge was under tow from a tug he couldn't stop to pick his little doggy up. The last time he saw it it was frantically swimming after the barge but was lost never to be seen again, sad story.

He should be wearing a doggy life jacket, the type that will keep him afloat and with a handle on the back so he can be dragged out if he does fall in.

He's so cute..can I have him.😊

Aw what a shame for the poor little dog... I do hope somebody took pity on him and gave him a good home. If Maureen had seen him I'm sure she would have taken him home.

What a great photo. Dogs love sailing, I took my Border Terrier on the Windermere ferry, we sat right at the front, he loved it, never took his eyes off the water.

I recall taking a trip on a narrow boat from the Trent and Mersey canal through the Anderton lift and down to the river Weaver. A young mother with a baby in a pushchair was making a lot of fuss strapping the child in. A crew member told her to unstrap the baby. She became indignant and refused and went on to say he was crazy to say this and that she didn't want her child falling into the canal and drowning. The crew member calmly replied, if the pram goes in with the child strapped to it, the pram will sink and take the baby under. If the child is not strapped in the pram will sink but the baby will float. Its your choice.

A very cute dog! He looks a little like Orphan Annie's dog, and a little like my little pooch.(except that my Fritz is what I call "vertically challenged",and bsndy legged to boot!
..However, we love him, bark and all!
