Soon to be Sir Dave

Granted for services unto himself and the building of Factory Sheds in prominent Town Center positions no doubt.

Comment by: Jack on 17th December 2016 at 09:15

At least it looks similar to Whelan. The one of Billy looks nothing like him.

Remember the 1960 Cup Final, where he broke his leg. For most, it would have been career over and into obscurity.
He did pretty well in the event.

JACK, the only response i can give to your opinion regarding Billy's statue is, that on the day of the unveiling his wife Joan said, ''It looks like the man i married'' that's good enough for me. Yes, Dave Whelans statue is a good likeness and also i agree with Gary re possible obscurity.

I'm sorry Jonno but that statue would frighten a police horse.

Gary it is a pity he he broke his leg it should have been his NECK!

Comment by: Roy on 18th December 2016 at 11:04

Totally out of order alan wink, do you know the man ? I find that the people who call him have never met him and dont know anything about him, except from malicious and ill informed hearsay. DW has only done good things for the town of Wigan and, many people in and around the town by providing them with jobs, plus its two major sports, football and rugby. Only for DW, the Tics and the Warriors wouldn't exist today, not in their present status anyway.

Comment by: alan wink on 18th December 2016 at 12:41

Roy, the answer is yes and was a not a pleasurable moment what sickens me is the fact that some people in wigan thinks the sun shines from his rear end until you have worked for him best be quiet. As for sport oh yes he did a right stitch up of wigan r.l.c.he made sure he sold rugby club to get his dw built at the expense of WIGAN R.L.C. HAVING NO GROUND OF THEIR OWN .

Comment by: Roy on 18th December 2016 at 14:30

Wrong about WRLFC,there are only a few people who know for sure what went on at Central Park Alan and i'm sure one of them isn't you. And yes i do know him. No i def dont think the the sun shines out of his ----, there's none of us perfect and he is one that isn't.

Comment by: Ticsmon on 18th December 2016 at 14:32

And why did Wigan rlfc have no ground of their own?

Comment by: Jack on 18th December 2016 at 19:23

Jack Robinson and Tesco.

Comment by: Ticsmon on 18th December 2016 at 22:26

So shouldn't Wigan rlfc supporters be grateful to Dave Whelan?

Comment by: Jonno on 19th December 2016 at 01:01

Correct Jack and Ticsmon.

This is exactly what i like about democracy one person can have his/her views and opinions and the other can have theirs mine are mine so we will agree to disagree ,
have a nice festive season ALL ON WIGAN WORLD.

Comment by: Christine on 20th December 2016 at 18:00

Nasty piece of work is Whelan. If he came down in the world and I saw him begging on the streets I wouldn't even offer him cursory glance. Anyone who ever worked at Pooles Pies, when Whelan owned it, will understand why many despise the guy.

I'm with you, Christine.
