....and what's the line of red lights ?

Good one David. How long did you have to wait? Split second as well, amazing! Just as a matter of interest, how do you go about photographing something so random? Is it just luck?

Looks like Winter Hill mast to me :)

Wow superb shot, is it early evening or early morning, David.

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 16th August 2015 at 09:57

It`s definitely Winter Hill mast lit up for aircraft to see.

Superb piccy. Looks like early morning to me. Sunrise to the east behind Winter hill. Is that correct David.

That's very nice David..I love how the sky tones mingle.

Great photo, nice to see all those stars with Pleiades very clear too, with living quite close to the town centre with all the lights only a few of the brightest stars can be seen on a clear night.

I took this photo at around 1 AM. The red lights are the transmitter on Winter Hill. The light in the sky is light pollution from street lights (probably Horiwch and Bolton). I was there over an hour and photographed 4 meteors of which this was the best. It is down to luck getting one in a shot. This was a 15 second exposure at f3.5 and iso 1600. So it's a case of selecting the correct camera settings, putting the camera on a tripod, composing the scene, manually focusing on the stars and then clicking away in the hope that you get one :D

Well done David, I was hoping that someone had managed to photograph a meteor, I did look occasionally but never saw any.

Well done, David.
I tried with very similar settings from Windy Arbour, from 11:15pm for an hour, but no luck on about 20 images!

YOU should have stayed longer jod, from 11pm-4am. You can't rush these things.
