WIGAN WORLD ?

Comment by: Neil Cain on 4th July 2015 at 08:27

Now that is an unusual shot. Find it a bit hypnotic. Good one

Comment by: Peter on 4th July 2015 at 09:07

What has Newburgh got to do with wigan?

Comment by: Rev David Long on 4th July 2015 at 09:25

Good shot, Mick... but a bit of a quibble... this is the tunnel under the aqueduct. The aqueduct itself is above, channeling (-duct) the water (aqua) of the canal. The aqueduct was built to allow traffic to continue to use the road.

Comment by: Mick on 4th July 2015 at 09:34

Yes you are right Rev David, what happened was I cropped the aqueduct off.

Comment by: Mick on 4th July 2015 at 09:36

Peter a lot of posh Wiganers live in Newburgh,

Comment by: A.W. on 4th July 2015 at 09:53

Interesting shot, Peter, Newburgh is part of the Dalton - Parbold area, Dalton was once part of Wigan Rural District Council so has a claim to be associated with Wigan.

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 4th July 2015 at 10:55

Newburgh Post Town is Wigan, The Post Code for the Town is WN8.
That's the Wigan Connection.

Comment by: Garry on 4th July 2015 at 11:50

A.W. Newburgh is Lancashire. So is Parbold and Dalton.

Comment by: A.W. on 4th July 2015 at 15:56

Garry, it may come as a surprise to you but Wigan is also in Lancashire and has never been out of Lancashire despite the creation of the long defunct Greater Manchester. The historic County Palatine of Lancashire as it is sometimes known was never abolished and I understand it was actually re-affirmed about 2 years ago.

Exceptional photo, Mick.

The figure makes the scene and it's quite spooky in a way.

Good composition.

Disregard the negativity.

Well done..!!!

This may help clear things up. Check out the address in the top right hand corner.

It's so much easy to built a road OVER the canal, than a road under it.

Comment by: irene roberts on 4th July 2015 at 20:32

Reminds me of a scene from "A Taste Of Honey". Newburgh is a lovely, picturesque place.

Comment by: Mick on 4th July 2015 at 23:05

Fred the spooky figure is my missis, and I havent noticed any negativity, but I never do.

Comment by: Garry on 5th July 2015 at 19:24

A.W.sorry your wrong. Wigan Police is GMP, GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE and Not LANCASHIRE POLICE. So Wigan is Still in the G/Manchester area.

Comment by: A.W. on 6th July 2015 at 09:54

Garry, until the 1960s there was a Wigan Borough Police force but Wigan was in Lancashire. The same applied to a lot of other borough towns and cities in those days. Most ran their own police forces, fire brigades and other facilities it made no difference to the county they were in.

Comment by: Ronny on 6th July 2015 at 23:27

Wigan is in Lancashire, Gary. Ask the post office. You come across to me as a "troll" with your unfounded and unintelligent comments.

Comment by: Colin Barnes on 7th July 2015 at 11:46

Let's clear things up.Wigan is according to the BT telephone book is post coded in Lancashire. Wigan is in Greater Manchester when things become administration. Its only silly TV news people who know no better who have tarnished peoples minds.Lancashire lad am I.

Comment by: Garry on 7th July 2015 at 18:39

Comment by: Bobby John on 12th July 2015 at 22:08

I posted a photo on here a couple of years ago taken at rivington and was criticised and derided as its in "Bolton".. Some people like nothing else to do but have a good moan. I think it's a great photo.
