Dont know if Ive mentioned it before but I once saw what I thought was a dead owl stuck in old fishing line that was hanging from a tree.

Anyway it turned out it wasnt dead so me and two more men rescued it.

You can see a video of the rescue with this Youtube link

Owl Thoughts

Look Here, Look there;

See This, See That;

What are we doing here Today?

Who's that man with the one big eye,

And all those people nearby.

Looking at me? I don't know why!

But I am looking my best, I don't deny,

So I'll just sit here -

Till they say Goodbye!

Comment by: DIRTY HARRY on 19th May 2013 at 11:37

Comment by: Maureen on 19th May 2013 at 14:02

Come on Harry..at the top it says Trencherfield Mill.

Comment by: mw on 19th May 2013 at 15:34

A wise old owl sat in an oak
The more he heard the less he spoke,
The less he spoke the more he heard,WHY CAN,T WE ALL BE LIKE THAT BIRD !!

Comment by: Ellen on 19th May 2013 at 17:06

"nobody gives a HOOT about birds"?--Really, Harry, the preponderance of people reacting to this picture would deny that statement!!

Comment by: Ellen on 19th May 2013 at 17:10

It just occurred to me that I used the wrong word.--- Instead of preponderance, I should have written majority.

Comment by: Linda on 19th May 2013 at 18:12

Wow. Absolutely stunning bird & brilliant pic

Comment by: Maureen on 19th May 2013 at 18:13

Ellen,we know what you mean,and you're correct.

Comment by: fred.c on 19th May 2013 at 18:35

Smashing pic I love owls. Dirty Harry speak for yourself not all of us. Anyway you put one on but make sure it's got Wigan stamped on.

Comment by: Thomas(Tom)Walsh. on 19th May 2013 at 20:56

Mick, I've just watched the video you mention. It very good thank you for highlighting it.

Comment by: Jean F (Wales) on 19th May 2013 at 21:39

Well excuse my ignorance, its a long time ago..but whrn i was at gidlow school I dont think we were taught about preponderance....what really, does it meen!? Sounds rather posh,Ellen. (I know what majority means)!

Comment by: Ellen on 20th May 2013 at 02:54

Jean, it means something to the effect of being stronger in terms of power or influence. I don't know why I used the word, but it does seem rather posh and I wanted to get my point under D.H's skin!(Kind of mean- spirited of me, I know, but under the circumstances.....)

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 20th May 2013 at 05:31

Jean, copy and paste :-
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/preponderance
DIRTY HARRY has hit the nail on the head.
Maureen, we know it`s taken in Wigan, but as DIRTY HARRY says, it could be anywhere.
freda.c, it was part of a collection on display.

Comment by: Maureen on 20th May 2013 at 12:23

Ernest I know it could be anywhere, but the same applies to the gentlemen sat around the tree..we have to believe the title.

Comment by: eddie, on 21st May 2013 at 13:18

nobody gives a hoot about your comments diry harry ,your just a sad old man.

Comment by: Jean F (Wales) on 21st May 2013 at 20:54

Thanks for your reply Ellen.glad you didnt take my comment the wrong way....i just thought it was funny but i can see why you used the word now .
