Where is it?
Wallgate, part of the Wigan Pier complex.
yep wigan pier, its the orwell aint it? what was this building used for before it became what it is?
This was a warehouse, goods were unloaded from canal barges on the other side, the WIGAN PIER rails were just a few yards away on the other side of the canal. I used to back a van into this building through the big double doors and load 168 lbs sacks of flour into it that came down a chute from upstairs together with a cloud of dust, then I delivered the load to the Bakery in Hindley, this was during the War. E.T.
what an intersting little paragraph Eric, I remember it well, but never went in the building back then , I lived just over Seven Stars Bridge on the right hand side and often saw the vans as I was passing back and fore but had no idea what they were loadind , thanks for that .x
