I used to drink in the Ship in the 60s - I think it sold Almond's bitter.

Looking at this lovely photo from the angle taken,I now know why I am so out of breath when I get to the history shop,after a hike up Standishgate and then over Millgate!

Ship Inn?...Always the "Ship Hotel".
sometimes referred to as "The Yachting Station" by the local imbibers.

my grandparents were publicans of the ship hotel flo and jim picton, my great uncle bill picton was publican at the white wash

The only recollection I have of miigate ..was having to go and queue up for ration books ..goodness knows where though .
