Thomas Linacre Building
thats my owd high school, mesnes high as it was then
Sue : Mine too, but going even further back when it was still Wigan Grammar School. I left in 1970.
I enjoy your pictures; they bring back so many memories of places I grew up 30 or more years ag. I moved to the US in 1981.
I think you are mistaken. The Thomas Linacre School was the newer building alongside the former Technical College. Opened in 1953 it was one of the then new generation of Technical Grammer Schools. At the time Wigan Grammer School was a seperate entity. I recall the sense of outrage felt by many at the Thomas Linacre when it was later absorbed into Wigan Grammar School.
Yep, "outrage" was a good way to describe it Tom. I can remember waiting for the bus to take us down to Woodhouse Stadium, for athletics and lobbing "sods" across the road at the Grammar School lads, OH HAPPY DAYS!!
LOOKING FOR THOMS LINACRE CLASS PHOTO'S BETWEEN 1953-1956
