During last summer holidays we met a nice couple ; they live near Wigan...twin city of our town : Angers. We hope we willgo ther soon. (We keep your site in our favourites)

Do you know of any pictures that exist of the area off Manchester Road, the general area before the houses and Rose Bridge was built, including the allotments and/or the area known as the clarry? I'm trying to find some photos off this area, but am really struggling, any help would be really appreciated.

i went to St Josephs school in the 40s and worked for a time at Burneys handbag factory later i worked at the Co_Op in wigan i have been here in Australia for 35 yrs ....and have made several trips back to dear old wigan..... come to think of it i might make another one

hi i work at Bambooza in wigan (formally known as Yates and Addisons) and was just wondering why in the pictures of Wigan pubs there isn't a picture of us. Do we not count or something? Can someone get back to me and tell me why this has happened? Thanx

This was just what I was looking for. The gallery is fantastic. My grandmother, Doris (Cornwell) Shannon was born in Wigan and took me to visit her hometown 20 years ago.
I recognize many sites in your photos.

A fantastic site, my Father was born in 5 Vere St. Wigan on 14th July 1889, so the site has special connections for me.

Traced ancestors back to Wigan in 1800 where they seemed to be fairly high society. Coal mine owner, property owner and sons became doctor and lawyer on King Street in 1820's.
Putting the directories on your site was brilliant. Keep up the good work

Grew up in Hindley. Attended Mornington Rd Secondary School. Still have many friends and family living in the area. We left England in 1991 for USA. Have lived in Australia since 1993. Good to see the Old Country again. Great Web site!

My family lived in Wigan Lane, circa 1900.
