Great site! My good friend in Wigan told me quite a bit about the place. Mainly the pubs (just kidding, Sue!). It was nice being able to see so many pictures of Wigan. If I ever get there I'll be able to show HER the town now.

The first thing I noticed was the amount of pubs located in the area. I guess there is nothing else to do in Wigan. In one of the pictures I thought I saw Charles and Camilla having an argument. It was outside a church so I knew it wasn't them. I do not see any castles or knights in shining armor. This is England, right???? Oh well, after seeing all the technology, I suppose this is the reason why we won the American Revolution.

I'm really enjoying browsing through the site, there is so much to see I will have to keep coming back, I hope to dig out some of my pictures of Wigan and contribute to the picture pages.
Uncle Joe's Mint Balls always feature, and as an ex emloyee of the factory I created a mail order service with it's own web site at www.mintballs.co.uk - to stop ex Wiganers all over the UK and beyond, suffering the pangs of MBD - now known as an extreme medical condition called Mintball Ball Deprivation. I'll try and answer any queries about UJMBs.
Good luck with a great site.

Colin Burgess had posted a message and I found him through that. I used to be involved with Wigan Jazz Club, and the Folk Club at the Park Hotel. See Keth Roberts's message. We met up last weekend at the Old Ashtonians reunion, a great weekend. It sparked a few memories and I've been looking up one or two old friends. Anybody remember me???
I used to be the compere at Wigan Folk Club in the sixties, then went off on the Hippie Trail to India. I've done a few things since then which may be of passing interests to one or two old friends, if any of you pick
this up.

Fantastic! My mum and dad will love looking at this site.
They are too old to travel back to England now, this will please them. I lived in Bickershaw and attended Hindley and Abram Grammer School.
Came to Perth in 1967. Great to see Wigan and surrounds again. Been some great changes, (or some maybe not so great eg Central Park?)

Having spent the past week doing "homework" on Wigan, it was sheer pleasure to come across your site.
It is FANTASTIC, the best site I have come across. I've been a couple of times, and love Wigan, especially the people, they are so warm and friendly. I have been singing Wigan's praises so much that now my 16 yr old daughter and her friends want to see for themselves!!
We will be spending a week there in August.

Now I'm homesick for proper pies, and fish and chips, and the rugby, and a decent cup of tea, and to sit down in a real pub.

Would like to hear from any relatives. My grandfather, William Henry Shaw, was born in Wigan in 1910, the youngest of 10 children.
He marrried Myrtle Smith in 1935 and lived in Suffolk where he was a policeman. They had 3 daughters - Jean, Janet and Sandra. A few of his sisters were Alice, Cissy, Mabel and Phyllis. Thanks!
