I believe that my dad and uncle's great-grandmother was born in Wigan around 1853. Her name was Ellen Rainey and she married Thomas Williams in September of 1881. Any info would be appreciated!

Brought back many happy memories,John, my late husband came from Wigan, I first visited in 1952,last time around 1987. I remember him telling me there was floodlit dancing on Wigan Pier - I believed him. Had to settle for The Empress. Maybe someone out there will remember the family, John Bullen (snr) was one time, under manager at Giants Hall. Excellent site, nice to see the photos Thank you.

Great site hello to anyone who went to Gidlow Girls 1967/1971

I think Wiganworld is an excellent site. My father was born in Hindley Green in 1896 and as a child I stayed with relatives in Marsh Green often during the summer holidays. Happy carefree days, even though WW2 was still being fought. Thank you for reviving my memories of Wigan. I will be a frequent visitor to your site.
