A very busy junction Crows Nest years ago. To accommodade the large volume of traffic, eight sections of track was laid. To the left of the fork, four lines used to the NUR line from Bolton to Chorley, the Horwich junction, a route to Blackburn. To the right of the fork, Wigan to Manchester and Pendleton to Hindley. The signal box was then located at the fork (next to the steam engine) sandwiched between eight lines. Nowdays, left lines, towards Westhoughton station. Right lines towards Daisy Hill station. Still busy but not as much....sadly.
