This medal was presented to my Grandfather,Mr Walter Crouchley of Lord Street Hindley, sometime between the Wars.He had been Foreman Shunter at Springs Branch and he was the first signalman at a new Signal Box on the line from Bickershaw Junction near Leyland Park to Bickershaw, I don't know the name of the Signal Box.Very small print under Loco' reads;Tutill London. I think ASRS is probably,
A? S,Society.R,Railway.S, Signalmen. Maybe you know different.

Sorry Eric it should read Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. I think it would have been issued as early as 1911 to commemorate the outcome of a successful strike. I would suggest that "Tutill" London was the name of the manufacturer of the medal. The Flag symbol is still used to-day on The London Orphan Fund badges.
