When I came out of the Army in 1948 some mates got me to join Wigan Auto Club. I only had an ex Army Matchless G3L motor bike so when some of us in Hindley decided to start our own Club,we decided to call it Hindley Motor Cycle & Light Car Club.Other friends who joined were,Cyril Barlow of Laurel Nurseries,Frank Burgess, the mid-wifes son.Mr Wilcocks of Excel Bakery. Bill Andie ex speedway rider from Mill Lane, plus about 20 others. The Badge is based on a Polish military Eagle and was cast by Walter Gerrard from George Street at the Hindley Foundary in First Avenue.

Hi Charlie, Yes I did live on Hindley Green but I never had an Ariel. Ex Army Matchless & Norton M20. I still see John Magee and Ken Barlow, and one or two others,Cyril Barlow also.the Club faded away after a few years but was born again when Arnold Ashton asked me about starting a new one.I said why not reform the old club ,it's still affiliated to the ACU and we still have some old Trophies. That is when we started using the Platt Bridge Inn and the landlord's son,Jeff was a member. We have had two different reunions a few years ago now. Arnold Ashton died many years ago, his son has a mowing machine service business in Wigan. Nice to hear from you. E.T.

Correction to last comment. I had a Matchless G3L & Norton 16H. M20 was the Army BSA.which I did use in Germany as a dispatch-rider.
