Why are they heading towards Skem ??

Hi mikewigan - I've just added these for David and he thinks that Princess Diana was visiting a few places in the area. These were, as you pointed out, of Diana on her way to Skem.

I Wonder if those police officers or their families recognise themselves in the pictures, they will no doubt be retired now like me.They would have been Lancashire constabulary, but we were Greater Manchester based at Pemberton & Wigan which bordered at Abbey Lakes. I unfortunately at the time was seconded to Aspull area at the time but did get to Wigan town centre at one point in my panda car whilst she was visiting the Galleries but didnt get to see Diana.

I remember the queen opening Wigan Pier in 1986, went to see her with my old primary school. I was too young to remember this Diana visit... I just have a question on this visit David, are you sure it was in 1982? Its just that 'A' registered cars only came into being between the months of August 1983 to July 1984?

I'll reply for David as I put the pics on. You're correct with '83 or '84. I spoke with David and he couldn't remember exact year - he thought it was 1982ish, hence c1982 (circa).

Cheers for that Brian, wasn't being nitpicky or anything, I just genuinely can't remember the Diana visit whichever of those years it was :-)

I think the visit was about 1986 as the Queen, Princess Ann and Diana and charles all visited around the same time. If i'm mistaken please accept my appologises.
