I wish I had had the experience of traveling on the line to Adlington via Boars Head and Red Rock..
Ron, there used to be a railway station around that area called The White Bear too...I went once with a friend, and the station house building was still there. I think it was at Adlington; it's a long time ago and the memory plays tricks, but I have a feeling there was a "White Bear" pub nearby.
Hi Irene its difficult to increase the size of the image on here. However if you copy it and paste it into an image manipulation programme you can see White Bear station at Adlington marked.
Ron, I am not good with copying and pasting or anything technical, but I have just got out our ancient magnifying glass, (which was in our house in Ince when I was growing up.....goodness knows how old it is! ), and can see White Bear Station marked. Thankyou for pointing it out.
I've just been watching some workmen tarmacing the Whelley Loop line as it goes through the Haigh plantations.
It will be a great multi-purpose path when it's finished.
