My dad was in REME during WW2 and attached to the Grenadier Guards. Who knows, he could have seen them marching through Wigan.

I think this would be from around 1976-77, the Grenadier Guards did a concert at Queen's Hall, I was there and very good it was too!

I have discovered that this event took place on a date sometime in 1971. A gala organised by the Wigan Branch of the Guard’s Association, and Wigan Rugby Union Football Club. The music was relayed to hospitals within the Wigan & Leigh group. During the day, the Guards mascot, a large Irish wolfhound was taken for a visit to Wrightington Hospital. It was also hoped that the visit by the Guard’s band would instil interest in young men to consider the joining of a regiment of Guards.

Well I'm almost convinced wiganer it's the Wigan Observer, they were one of the first who could print colour starting in the 1960s. These are Wigan Observer cuttings 100%.

It's a bit unusual having newspaper cuttings but you don't know what the ocation was, surely it would have said in the written columns.
