The year of the Royal Wedding. (29th July). 3 days later the carnival takes place. In our usual view point (end of Moss Grove) as we watch the floats travel up Grove Lane and turn onto the High Street. This one is in aid of Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

My memory is a little foggy, can anyone confirm for me whether Stoke Mandeville was,or is a spinal injuries centre?

Ellen, yes it is for spinal injuries, unfortunately it I was caught up in the Jimmy Savile scandal.

Stoke Mandeville Hospital is near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire and Dr Guttmann from there is credited with starting the Paralympic Games after WW2 when he organised competitions for wounded servicemen and women to coincide with the 1948 Olympic Games in London. Ellen, the least said about scandal, the better.
