That would be King George V and Queen Mary (she had a boat named after her). I cant recognise the building or location!
Seems to be the rear of the old market hall facing onto the car park.
It's the Market Hall on the market square side Johnny as it originally was, before it was extended for offices etc.

Press reports for the visit say "their Majesties, together with the Mayor and Stephen Walsh MP, attended a presentation on a crowded market square".
The lads' at slope arms, did in no way envisage, what prospect lay before them, twelve months later.
Thank you Gordon and Mick.
At least I can say I stood in the footsteps of royalty! :O)
They travelled though Hindley then visited Knowsley Hall for for a royal command performance
Knowsley Hall, the seat of Lord Derby, Gerry! I had relatives who lived on the bugalow estate adjacent and would visit them in the 50's.
With my cousins, I would scale the walls of the estate only to be shot at by the gamekeepers!!
