My second vehicle was a ROYAL ENFIELD "CLIPPER" 250 c.c.MOTOR CYCLE. Reg. No. BEK 722.
Bought it brand new at Miller`s in Scholes, Wigan on Tues.11 Jan `55. for £162 + dual seat and panniers at £12--8--6 = £176--8--6 total. Milage on collection was 20. Paid 4/7d per gall.for the first petrol. Summary of running expenses for 1955 :- Milage for year 6270. Petrol £15--4--11. Oil £1--12--7. Tax £1--17--6. Ins.£8--17--5. Repairs £0--15-4. Sundries £1--9--6. Total £29--17--3. Petrol consumption 93.3 m.p.g. Cost/mile 1.143d. Bought last petrol at 4/7d per gall.on Thurs.24 May`56 at 7741 mls. Traded it in at Miller`s on Sat. 26 May`56 for £125. Owned it for 1yr.4 mths.

Thanks Mick. I`ve had 15 vehicles including my present Honda `Jazz`, which wiil probably be my last!
I have them listed under `Motoring` in `Documents` on my laptop. So just copied and pasted the info above.
I`ll dig out a photo of my 4th vehicle - a Morris Minor - and hopefully put it in `cars you wished you`d have kept`.

Modern motor cycles don't have a number plate on the front mudguard for safety reasons. A friend of mine had a Royal Enfield in the 1950's, The last time I visited the motor bike show in 2005 you could buy a brand new one, I think the are made in India, a bit dated though.
