This is a very primitive circuit design: having the microphone in series with the receiver. It has a detrimental effect upon the audibility of the received sound. I am surprised to see this in an instrument as late as the style of case suggests. From 1929, onward, this arrangement began to be displaced by inductive coupling of these: the so-called ASTIC Telephone. (ASTIC = Anti-Side Tone Induction Coil.)
Thanks for info AP.
I have a five telephone system still working in my property, but with one faulty handset. Does anyone have an internal wiring diagram available for the handset.
You could try Bob's Telephone File http://www.britishtelephones.com/ or Uk Vintage Radio Repair And Discussion Forum which has a vintage telephone section www.vintage-radio.net/forum/index.php
Many Thanks.
