My dad Tommy Baybutt used to be concert secretary at the club around about the late fifties early sixties. His mam my grandmother Sarah Baybutt lived in skittle alley, it followed the railway line going to Orrell on the opposite side of the road from the station. I was only a nipper in the sixties but remember the annual club trip to Southport when we got a pound note in an envelope, such wealth, the corporation buses used to park up in Enfield Street to take us. The shop across the road from the station I knew as “little Billy’s” run by two old ladies, I don’t know who Billy was? They had a penny and ha’penny trays for sweets.
Can anyone tell me when the club was first opened. It will be demolished in the very near future and as a 30 + year regular, it would be nice to know.
I am sure me and my father Peter Liptrot were members at this club and we loved every minute of it
