5th Wigan St. Catharine's BB on parade during the early second world war years at the bottom of Millgate. Eric Winstanley (3rd from left) and Alan Hankin (9th from left). At this time the 5th Wigan was one of the best bands in Wigan

Brilliant picture for those looking slightly beyond the main subject. The photo is taken looking up Millgate towards the town centre. The hoardings on the right are there again at the present time, advertising the somewhat doomed "tower" that will probably never get built now. Beyond the hoardings is the Baths Hotel, now long since demolished. On the left is the old Wigan Baths, where my Grandfather Jack Cockrell (Snr) was Manager for about 30 years until his retirement in 1966, just before the Wigan "Olympic" pool was opened. That too has now been confined to the history books. The new building there appears to have attracted much critisism recently in the local press

Superb photograph, My Grandad is Richard Causey who is nearly 92 now he is in the picture (it was his brother John who was in Wigan borough Police) . He remembers most of the people on this photograph along with the other one of St Catherine's BB.

Sadly Richard Causey my Grandfather passed away last week. Probably the last person on this photograph to pass, he was 96 and will be greatly missed
