Uncle Willy was always a photograph that stood on the sideboard. around 20 years ago I went to Belgium to see his grave, I took with me a small bag of soil from St Williams church yard. I placed it on the grave so that he could share a bit of home...Once I had stood at his grave he became real, only 21 and died for his country.. God Bless you Uncle Willy.
I Salute him Hero's like Willy is what rememberance sunday is all about.
What a lovely thing to do, Gerry.
Young men died for this country of ours then & are still dying.
I traced a boyhood friend of my father in law, his certificate is on the CWGC website. He was with the Lancashire Fusiliers & died on the 14th of April 1918 aged 19yrs & is remembered at the cemetery at Loos.
