Looking the other way ie south from the same view point as the previous picture showing the largest free standing section of viaduct which was demolished completely when the Bradshawgate by-pass was constructed.
I wonder how many people are aware today , that there was once a mineral tunnel from the Atherton collieries to the canal wharf at Leigh.. This tunnel had it’s exit just to the left of this picture. February 1988
