I think this has been on before and if I remember correctly it was a Fire Brigade. The gent on the front row second from the right is Harry Crouchley who used to live next door to us on Warrington Road in Abram.
Uniform looks very much like that of the WWII Auxiliary Fire Service.
Probably the Auxillary Fire Service formed during world war two.
Hi Barbara, The uniform looks like the A.F.S. to me, that's Auxiliary Fire Service, formed to help out during the War because of the extra fires caused by the German air raids. A lot of our local firemen were sent to help out during the London Blitz. E.T.
My nana used to man the phones in an emergency during WW2 for the Auxillery Fire Service! She lived on Warrington Road for a spell in the Police House.
WW2 fire brigade. My uncle Bill Hoofe is second from left, middle row. Lived at 78 Warrington Road.
hi did your grandfather, have Bate relations from Golborne
The photo was taken at the top of Fisher Ave off Park Lane
i put the photo on over 12months ago
My dad was in the AFS during the war. He was with the Wigan division, and I think he usedd to have to go to Liverpool to fight fires. If anyone has pictures of the Wigan Division I'd be very interested to look at them. Thanks.
Hi Mark, missed this photo when you put it on, i only found it recently in my deceased Aunt's photos.
Sandra we have no immediate Bate relatives in Golborne but the Bate family goes as far back as early 1700's in Newton so I guess somewhere along the line we will be related.
