The player seated 1st on the right hand side is Joe Butcher who was an electrician. My husband Don was Joe's apprentice electrician at Giants Hall in the 50s
Evelyn, If it's same person we lived next door to him. Was he married to Peggy & lived in Standish Lower Ground.
Lynne, yes you are right Joe's wife was Peggy and had 2 children and lived in Standish Lower Ground.
My hubby speaks very highly about Joe.
If you remember Joe had a 1936 Hillman which me and my hubby
became the proud owners of.
We lived next door for about 10yrs. They were good friends & neighbours. A lovely family. I think I remember the car too now you've jogged my memory. I've just found the log book for my dads 1st car. A 1946 Austin which he bought in 1960. My dad's Tommy Bishop by the way.
Lynne,my hubby Don was an apprentice electrician at Giants Hall Colliery and knew your dad quite well.Like Don he was a keen motorcyclist.Don remembers he had a Matchless Motorbike.
Thought he must know dad if he knew Joe. Yes he did have a matchless. I'll try to find a pic of that one.

Think 3rd from right back row is John(Jack) Markey.
Man kneeling front row middle is Lawrence Barker.
Is the one far left kneeling Lol Clare?
BTW, my bro' Denis Culshaw worked with Joe Butcher & Co in the electric shop at "Giants", until Standish Hall Drift was started, when some of the lads (Ronnie Everet, Jack Penny,Roy Benson, George Woosey.etc, were transferred to there, including John Pit & Taylor Pit,where I started work in '53 (Electric Shop)
Second player in from the left back row is my dad bill shepherd, I have a copy of this photo and a couple more, and some rugby medals. He was from scholes originally then beech hill before finishing up in ince, does any one remember him.
Joe Butcher was my dad and I remember the Bishops - Tommy, Lilly, Lynne and her brother who lived next door in Standish Lower Ground.
The man second from the left wearing flat cap and glasses is my grandad James Cheetham who lived in Gidlow Houses. If anyone has any other photographs his family would love to see them.
Sandra. I would love to see the other photos you have of the team as your Dad is related to my Father in law, Jimmy. We were discussing some of the names on the photo last night. He said they were hard but happy times.
We think the lad kneeling at the front on the left is Fred Egerton. He is the Uncle of my Mother in Law. She married the brother of Bill Shepherd pictured 2nd left back row, Jimmy.Anyone remember them
