well done tony j...spot on with those names,just couldnt remember them.

Second from left back row is Maurice Whittle. He can claim to have played a MAJOR role in getting the club into the Football League as he scored the goal that beat Sheff Wednesday in the F.A. Cup. Which in turn, led to the club playing Birmingham in the next round. Alf Ramsey was manager at Birmingham at that time He was so impressed by the Latics display ( Although we lost) He canvassed support for the club to get into the League. Which we did at the end of the season
