You couldn’t imagine these men with a pony tail in their hair or a ‘bun’ on top of their heads.
Good photo Keith, i can't name the
I knew all 3 players. I worked with Frank, had a regular drink or '2' with John in my in laws pub and, with my father in law on Sunday mornings picked Brian up at his home and took him to Appley Bridge Legion for his usual 5's and 3's session, AND i also had a pint or 2 in your dad's pub Keith. I also have no idea who the other person is.
Can't name the other person i was supposed to be typing !! Then added it at the end !!
I'll have to put it down to my age.
Me and Brian go way back, first I was always knocking on his door asking for his autograph when he lived SLG.
Then we become bus mates, he would be on the bust to Appley Bridge and I would get on at the Plough, then we have a drink at the Railway and then he would go over the bridge to the Alison.
One night Brian was in the Alison with couple of rugby mates cant think who but it was either John Barton or Frank Collier, I was in the toilet having a pee and one of them came in and he was so big he blocked the light that was coming in through the window.
Was 1958 the year they beat Workington in the Wembley final?
Can't help smiling at the state of the pitch !
The pic's obviously not been taken after a match!
Yes quite right Veronica, and no tattoos on their legs, arms and neck.
Frank Collier was a friend of my Dad. They worked together in the pit . Either Mosley Common or Bold I I’m not sure . I remember one day he came to our house and cracked his head on a ceiling light he was so tall . I was only around 8 at the time but it has always stayed with me when he is mentioned .
Frank Collier lived in platt lane ,he and his work mates used to be picked up near the crispen pub they worked at Mosley common on night turn
Brian McTigue parents garden was back to back with my in laws in Beech Hill, his parents were lovely people.
Bill Collier did his national service with us 1947 !
A belated reply to DerekB, yes 1958 was the year they won this cup, against Workington Town. If I’d been a Workington fan I would have been extremely unhappy about two incidents. One an early serious foul on a key player of theirs (Archer) which robbed them of his services (no subs in those days) and the other a brilliant try saving tackle by Norman Cherrington our second row, who dislodged the ball as Ike Southward was already over the line and about to score.
