This team played Merthyr Tydfil at Central Park on October 14th 1907., winning 44 - 03. Wigan had been making steady progress, finishing 4th in the League table, they went on to better things in the two following years. The number next to each player shows how many first team games they played for the club.

This is 113 years ago. Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales is a long long way to come even now. God knows how the team got to Wigan and how long it took in 1907.

Mr X, It would have been a train journey, just as it was in 1888. After playing Wigan on the Monday, the Maori touring team, met Llanelli on Wednesday of the same week.

There were about half a dozen Welsh teams joined the Northern Union at that time. No doubt travelling was one of the reasons they left.

One half there of what my Grandad (who was born in 1881) called a 'sublime threequarter line' . The legendary Leytham,Jenkins, Todd and Miller.

Pete, you're quite right. Miller joined Wigan less than a month after this match and Todd the following season all contributing to Wigan's great success thereafter.
