Forgot to mention that the photo is roughly dated as c1936, which fits in with the supposed dates of 1936/38 for one of the Roby Mill football teams, in which at least 2 of the chaps in this cricket team are clearly identifiable. Obviously all-round sportsmen.
Will be a bit later than that Christopher. My Dad is second in on the front row and he was born in 1923. I reckon early 40's
The dates you offer of this picture suggest that this would have been taken at Roby Mill on the cricket field along from Knight's House. OS maps suggest it was used for the best part of twenty years as a pitch with a pavilion. If anyone has any further details from older relatives as to who they played and in which leagues please get in touch.
I believe that Dalton cricket club was originally situated half way down long Heys lane Dalton on a field at the side of pit lane. They had a tent for a pavilion. The cricket club then moved to Roby mill and another location before being moved to its current home next to the Prince William pub.
Noelle, the "another location" you mention may well have been the field due south of Dalton Church, now at the N end of a golf course. Also. if you would assist, where was Pit Lane at Dalton?
