Jack Molyneux, his wife, his son Ron, & daughter Phyllis, used to live 5 doors away from me in Giants Hall Road, SLG.
One of the brothers, lived up Horton St, Martland Mill. He had a large "pen" with an old tram psrked in it,(Horton St was the old tram terminus) & a strip of lawn where he practised his bowling.
Jim was a foreman joiner with the council,he lived at beech hill with his family.Tommy Freeman the eldest brother was a miner & also lived in beech hill.
I can't leave out bill Molineux,he was the one who lived in Horton st. during the war years,& for sometime after the war.he was an income tax inspector, he lived for bowling.
My father Jim Molyneux won the 'NEWS OF THE WORLD CUP'at Preston in 1962. I remember that day well;he was so proud to have joined his brothers by winning this cup.
In my young years I spent many (many) days with both my parents at Mesnes park bowling greens, where they both spent many enjoyable times. I have still kept my own set of bowls, even though I now live in America and there are no bowling greens here. Thank you for the photographs.
YES we remember my dad coming home after winning THE news of the world bowling cup, i am almost sure the great prize was £200 he tossed it into the air and we had a good laugh picking it up 'AND GIVING IT BACK TO HIM' OUR BRO
THER HAS THE 'JACK' and replica cup.
