Do we know anything of the History of Ince Cricket Club and where the ground was?
Ranger - in 1879 the Parish of Ince, and the township, stretched down to what is now Platt Bridge. Old Maps show no cricket ground as far as I can see in the area we now think of as Ince (Spring View up to Ince Bar etc) - but they do show two cricket grounds west of Walthew Lane - one roughly where the CWS glass factory was and one a bit further south, around Fogg's Fold. A later Geographia map I have, from between the wars, shows a football ground on the first site - but nothing where the Spring View CC is (founded 1926 according to information on relevant pics on this site).
It may be that the Ince CC used one of those grounds - and the Spring View club came into existence after the Ince club folded. I think there's a history of the Lancashire Cricket League Spring View belongs to - that might shed further light - but you'll have to wait until lockdown is over to get out to look for it in the Museum of Wigan Life.
