The ball in the picture (WIGAN SC 1938) would suggest: Wigan Swimming Club 1938 - Water Polo team + officials.
Notes:
- My father Ken Orrell is the one with the ball between his knees.
- There is a possibility that middle back row is J Lawrenson, if so probably the goal-keeper. **

Anybody know any others?

** Note that both the above have a "Lancashire 2nds" badge (I still have my father's), I have a letter dated Aug 1938 with Ken selected to play for Lancashire 2nds against Cheshire at Southport on Sep 8th. An accompanying letter shows J Lawrenson also playing from Wigan and the letter suggests he is the goal-keeper.

- I wonder where this pic was taken as the visible letters on the towel on the officials shoulder reads "ION BAT", could that be "wigan CorporatION BAThs"?

I came across this article from the Liverpool Echo 12 July 1934:
- WIGAN WATER POLO -
Following the suspension of five of their team members, Wigan have resigned from the English Water Polo league. The resignation has been acknowledged. I understand, and Wigan have been informed that it will be brought before the next meeting of the council.
One might think that that would he the end of league Water Polo in Wigan half-way through the season. Not so, however, for the council does not meet until February, and it seems there are rigorous financial penalties for non-fulfillment of fixtures. Whether Wigan will enforce the Application of this rule remains to be seen.

My Dad did say it was a very dirty game, but I am assured that is no longer the case, but still physical.
