The draw for the 3rd Round of the Rugby League Challenge Cup - scribbled on the back of the yellow card, confirms the year. Although nights under canvas, barbells and band practice were beyond my capabilities, I did manage to play football for the Club's team. Team spirit was very good and on one occasion extended to a local cinema where we watched Goal!; highlights of the 1966 World Cup Competion. The highlights also included many of the oohs and aahs of the players, and even the crinkly sound of the leather footballs trundling along the gravel surfaces - groundbreaking sound-effects for filmed football matches at the time, I seem to recall. Members of the team also included Peter Burrows, Peter Hart, John Tither, Mat' Mahoney, Jimmy Moss, Kenny Bell, ... .
