Wigan Album

A nice old photo! but I think this match was actually in 1949. Wigan won, to tie the scores from the 2 legs on aggregate. Extra time should have been played but wasn't, so the match was declared null and void and the whole match had to be replayed. Wigan won that u07and went through but were knocked out in round 3 by Barrow.(Facts from the superb "Cherry and White" website and Ian Morrison's book "Wigan 1895-1986")

I went to this match,I recall Leigh had not been at this ground that long and they had carted in loads and loads of hard-core and ashes to increase the ground capacity. I remember Nebby Cleworth sticking to Nordgren like a leech all the match.
