Wigan Album

David McPhail, a centre, came to this country from New Zealand in exalted company, his fellow passenger being none other than Lance Tod - they arrived aboard the SS Arawa on November 15th 1909. He had been the 100 yards amateur sprint champion in Canterbury and played for Wigan "A" against Widnes "A" on 27th November 1909 - he does not seem to have made the first team and was transferred to St Helens, where a fellow New Zealander Turtle played. Turtle was later to lose his life in WW1.
