I'm struggling to name any of these "Wigan" players.

I was thinking the same George. Could they be Halifax (blue and white hoops) or Leigh, or Batley?

The Biggest Rugby League Crowd In Great Britain:-
The 1954 Challenge Cup replay between Halifax and Warrington drew a then world record crowd of 102,575 to Odsal Stadium in Bradford. It remains the biggest attendance at a “Rugby” match of any kind in the Northern Hemisphere. Many at the game however believe the attendance figure was well over 120,000.
The Biggest Rugby League Crowd In Australia:-
The 1999 National Rugby League Grand Final between the Melbourne Storm and St George/Illawarra Dragons was played before 107,558 at the Sydney Olympic Stadium. The crowd figure set the official world record for a Rugby League match.

Can’t match 120,000 but for the record I attended the following Wigan matches:-
1959 March 27th Wigan 19 St Helens 14 at Central Park
47,747 attendance (still an all time UK league match record)
1960 May 21 Wakefield Trinity 3 Wigan 27 at Odsal Stadium, Bradford
83,190 attendance - not a record but pretty good - fondly remember Billy’s great try
1961 St Helens 12 Wigan 6 at Wembley Stadium - a boiling hot day - crest fallen.
94,672 attendance - I don’t think Billy was fit that day.

I saw the Good Friday match 27th March 1959 at Central Park and also went to Odsal Stadium to watch the League Championship Final on 21st May 1960. Watched the Wembley Cup Final on 13th May 1961 on TV.

I was also on for the Wigan Saints game the gates had closed when me and my mate arrived we were lifted over the wall on douglas side of the ground by two blokes we were ten years old. I remember there were many many fans still outside the car park in front was just a solid mass of fans that could't get in.
