I think Bill Sayer got sent off in this game for tripping.

In my opinion Rugby League was a much better spectacle to watch then. Just as those players couldn't live up to today's game The players today wouldn't have done, in the conditions they played in then. The game to day is played on pristine pitches and is faster, but does it have the same atmosphere as games then?

You are correct,I also think it was a better spectator sport then. The players were semi-professional and some worked a Saturday morning shift at the pit before a game. The players were more dedicated then.

I don't think today's game could possibly provide as much excitement as then since there's a limit as to the amount of expectation and eagerness you can experience BUT that doesn't mean today's game is worse or less exciting - just played in a different era. I'm convinced it's just as tough, physically demanding and absolutely brilliant at times. Still the greatest value for money game in the world without doubt.
