Photo taken on finals day, Saturday 13th June 1959. Benny Jones won the cup and £60. He beat me in the quarter final and I won £5.

I have just informed my very good friend Ronnie Molyneux of this photo. He will contact me, probably tomorrow, with a comment. He's not sure, until he sees the photo, if the J. Molyeux is his father, or uncle. There are some real 'good uns' on the photo.

Ronnie has called me back, his father, Jack, is on the photo. Ronnie tells me that his father also won this comp. around that time.

I remember Ronnie.
Billy Molyneux was a professional and he beat me in the semi-final of the Lancashire Evening Post handicap one year.
I also got into the semi-final another year but was beaten again!
Thats my grandad on the end top right,Ted Jones,i was 1 month old when that photo was took.
Lancashire Evening Post, rubbish paper. When it came in to Wigan it only covered the likes of Preston, Leyland, Chorley and so on. Very little on Wigan. A nothing paper in my opinion.
And what has that got to do with this photo??

Ernest, can you clear things up please, i would imagine you 'know' yourself and what you looked like all those years ago, but your version of the names and positions varies greatly from the papers version.
There's a crease in the paper where the words are Jonno.
I'm sorry Garry, it has nothing to do with a crease in the paper. Ernest has the line up as, back row. Yates (organiser) Pyke, Wood, Lavin, Dawber, E Jones (ref)this person is confirmed by Doodle. Yet Evening Post have it as Yates, Molyneux, Freeman, Jones, Williamson, E Jones (ref). Who is right? We'll have to ask Ernest.

Ernest Pyke, do you have any crown green bowls county match programmes from that era. I am trying to compile an online archive of all county match scores as the organising body (BCGBA) do not appear to have kept information. Please feel free to e-mail me, as I may not get chance to check for replies on this site
