It is John, barring Graham Glover who joined us just after the Man u match, and went on top play for 1st team many times. Re your comments on the forum i must have had a bad night, yes result wise 10-1. But got to meet Matt Busby, I had just started work, was on £2-3s-4p for a 45h week. and was paid £1 for playing that night. ps i always wanted to play at the other Old Trafford but never made it. But beggars cant be choosers.

ttd, was it not Eric Redrobe rather than H.Redrobe?

Comment by: jcf on 12th May 2014 at 17:36

Roy, I think Eric had already signed for Bolton Wanderers !

I have the programme v Man Utd on Monday 9th October 1961.
Price 2d Team listed was Darbyshire, Dickinson, Moss, Dale, Blakemore, Morris, Bowen, White, Hopkinson, Orritt and Knowles. John Oritt got our goal.
I later worked with Colin Blakemore and also his son at PP Petroleum.

From your team Geoff, Colin Hopkinson was injured and did not play. Frank Picton took his place.

Trev, did you not represent Lancashire schoolboys at soccer or cricket? I worked with Alan Ashcroft before he retired. He played at Wembley a couple of times. Was he a good un? :)

Comment by: ttd on 14th May 2014 at 15:51

John i was not good enough. Alan Ashcroft great player at school, and a good lad.

Comment by: ttd on 14th May 2014 at 15:56

Have more on the Man Utd game - Frank Picton was 9, Graham Knowles 10 and Howell Redrobe 11 and it was Knowles who scored after 57 mins. The attendance was 6,634 - Receipts £423, United led 6-0 at half-time. Their 10 goals came from Barry Fry 3, Ernie Ackersley 3, Eamonn Dunphy 2, David Latham and a Don Moss og

Eamonn Dunphy played for Millwall after he left United and is now a writer and very controversial Tv pundit.
