20 years later Warriors go down under to create history again.

Comment by: mache on 23rd February 2014 at 11:35

Pity they couldn't have made the town proud.

Comment by: Jay on 24th February 2014 at 12:31

Good job the Latics don't embarrass the town as much as these lot do.

Comment by: GR on 24th February 2014 at 16:59

Once again the self-confessed Wigan rugby hater who by his own admission found rugby to rough to play comes out with his usual childish comments. The only person who embarrasses Wigan is you .

Comment by: Jay on 24th February 2014 at 18:11

At least I put my name on a comment. Once again I state the truth only to be slagged off by a rugby hot head.

Comment by: GR on 24th February 2014 at 19:17

So your name is jay , to be honest I'm no wiser. NO I'm not a rugby league hot head , I just think you need to grow up, your comments are straight from the playground and thats being a little unkind to the over 7s.

Comment by: Jay on 24th February 2014 at 20:50

How is giving my opinion being childish, am I not entitled to an opinion?.

My name is Jay Smith from Springfield, an avid Latics supporter, who should be allowed to post something without
being accused of being childish, I think it's you who needs to grow up and stop getting upset.

Comment by: FredG on 25th February 2014 at 12:06

I've a season ticket for both the Rugby and the Latics. It's not too long ago that the Latics lost the last game of one season 8-0 and the first two of the following season 4-0 and 6-0. Isn't that embarrassing?

Comment by: Jay on 25th February 2014 at 17:56

The might Latics don't embarrass the town with there thugish behaviour or bad crowds, I can't bring my self to watch Wigan RL because of this.

Comment by: GR on 25th February 2014 at 21:25

I think jay your latest comment just about sums you up,A totally immature poster who thinks its clever to wind people up.

Comment by: FredG on 25th February 2014 at 22:47

Thuggish behaviour? Bad crowds? Please explain.

Comment by: Jay on 26th February 2014 at 15:15

Thuggish behaviour on and off the field and poor crowds. The sooner people realise that this is a footballing town the better.

Comment by: FredG on 26th February 2014 at 20:31

Thuggish behaviour on and off the field and poor crowds? Please explain in more detail.

Comment by: Jay on 27th February 2014 at 15:14

Fred, if you can't understand what I'm saying then I'm not wasting my time trying to explain something that a lot of people have known for a long time.

Comment by: FredG on 28th February 2014 at 20:54

The Rugby's average attendance for 2013 was 14,545. The Latics' average for the present season is, to date, 15,144. Are you sure it's me who doesn't understand?

Comment by: Jay on 3rd March 2014 at 18:00

I doubt that very much, the Latics have had far bigger crowds than the rugby, far bigger, after all Wigan is a football town.

Comment by: FredG on 4th March 2014 at 20:54

Do you think that I made up these average attendances? Don't forget, I do have a season ticket for BOTH teams.

Comment by: Jay on 5th March 2014 at 17:34

So you say, if that was true you would no the Latics always get better crowds on than the thugby, Wigan as always been known for it's football team, and will continue you to be. Super league won't be about for much longer.

Comment by: FredG on 6th March 2014 at 16:30

You can find all the average attendances on the internet. Your comments are amusing; so much so that I'm guessing you're fairly young.

Comment by: Jay on 9th March 2014 at 13:08

Amusing, but true, I have ben an avid Latics supporter since I was young, which is a while ago, and they have always been known to be the main sporting team in Wigan so gathering the most support. If you think any different then you are blinkered my friend.

Comment by: FredG on 9th March 2014 at 17:53

Are you sure "always" is the correct word to use? Here's a good question. What are the highest attendances of both the Latics and the Rugby at the DW stadium?

Comment by: Jay on 10th March 2014 at 11:16

I care not about the attendances of the thugby, I am Latics through and through and no that, because this is a footballing town, our attendances will always be better than the thugby. Just get use to it Fred.

Comment by: Frank Healy on 10th March 2014 at 14:25

These days, Wigan is both a Football and a Rugby town. Like FredG, I have a season ticket for both the Latics and the Rugby.

Comment by: Jay on 11th March 2014 at 17:37

If that's the case how come people from outside the town only ever mention Wigan Athletic, when I go on holiday people always mention our time in the premiership and most of all winning the FA cup. The thugby will never bring publicity like that to Wigan, anyone thinking otherwise is blinkered. What do you think people are talking about, Latics beating Man City AGAIN, or the fact that the Warriors embarrassed the town again.

Comment by: Frank Healy on 11th March 2014 at 18:46

I'm proud of the fact that the town of Wigan holds 3 major trophies.

Comment by: FredG on 11th March 2014 at 18:53

How many times have you been on holiday since we won the FA cup?

Comment by: Jay on 11th March 2014 at 20:26

I have been abroad 3 times and had a couple of weekends away and a couple of works conferences and each time the coversation has always been about how Latics have done over the years and about the amazing FA cup win against a massive team like City, never about the thugby.

Comment by: gr on 11th March 2014 at 21:38

Do you mean when you go on school trips, What really makes you stand out is the constant use of the word thugby, which is ironic as on the sport forum you want to kick mals fat backside off the site.

Comment by: JDH on 11th March 2014 at 23:49

can't believe that you're old enough to have attended works conferences, I(we) would be interested to know who you work for and where the conferences were held.

Comment by: Jay on 12th March 2014 at 18:47

This is not about we're I work, this is about Wigan thugby fans who can't come to terms with the fact that the main, and only, team in Wigan is the Latics. As for mal he's another one who can't face the truth.

Comment by: GR on 12th March 2014 at 21:41

Your right this isn't about work its about a petty childish individual whose fond of calling people thugs and fascists and then endeavors to ruin every post with his repetitive infantile drivel, you really are to be pitied and I sympathise with genuine latics fans who have to read the rantings of a bigot who shames the town's football club because of his childish prejudists against a sport he dislikes.

Comment by: Jay on 13th March 2014 at 19:16

It certainly looks like the truth hurts some people.

Comment by: Frank Healy on 13th March 2014 at 21:09

Hi Jay. In which year did the Rugby win the "BBC Sports Personality Team Of The Year" award?

25,133; 25,004; 47,747. You might know what these figures refer to; if you don't then I'll let you know.

Comment by: Jay on 14th March 2014 at 19:18

So how exactly does that change the fact that Wigan is a footballing town.

Comment by: Frank Healy on 15th March 2014 at 14:40

1994
25,133 The Latics' highest attendance at the DW/JJB stadium
25,004 The Rugby's highest attendance at the DW/JJB stadium
47,747 The Rugby's highest ever attendance for a league match at home (1959)

Comment by: Jay on 17th March 2014 at 19:23

Clutching at straws now, pal. Still doesn't change anything, I would give up if I where you, your getting anywhere.

Another win for the the mighty Latics.

Comment by: Frank Healy on 17th March 2014 at 20:21

Average attendances - current season and last 3 seasons

Latics 15,137; 19,359; 18,639; 16,812
Rugby 13,540; 14,545; 16,043; 16,124

Comment by: Jay on 18th March 2014 at 18:25

Even though the Latics have an overall better attendance it's irelevant. What matters is the fact that the Latics are the only team people talk, or want to talk, about whe they find out your from Wigan.

Who do you think people are talking about now, the Latics and there amazing winning streak, or the thugby.

Ermmmmm, let me think.

Comment by: GR on 18th March 2014 at 20:36

Im trying to work out if this person has skin so thick an elephant gun wouldn't penetrate it, or hes been abducted by aliens and they swapped his brain with a gerbil,
ermmmmmm let me think ?

Comment by: Frank Healy on 18th March 2014 at 22:41

1947-1961 Lancashire Combination; Latics average home attendances
Highest 5,689 (1952-53) Lowest 2,024 (1960-61)

Comment by: Jay on 19th March 2014 at 18:55

You can come out with as many comments about attendances, and personal comments, as you like but it doesn't change anything. The towns buzzing because there's a strong chance that the mighty Latics will return to the premiership.

Comment by: Frank Healy on 19th March 2014 at 23:19

Latics' home average attendances

1961-1968 Cheshire League

Highest 2,704(1964-65) Lowest 1,567(1963-64)

1968-1978 Northern Premier League

Highest 4,178(1970-71) Lowest 1,107(1976-77)

Comment by: Jay on 20th March 2014 at 20:15

Scraping the barrel now, Wigan thugby could get 25,000 every game but it still wouldn't put them on the map as much as the Latics.

I'd give it up if I was you, It's a fact, nothing to be ashamed of.

Comment by: Frank Healy on 20th March 2014 at 21:24

Latics' average home league attendances

1978-82 Division4: 6,701; 5,902; 4,208; 5,839

1982-97 Division3: Highest 4,439(1982-83) Lowest 1,748(1994-5)

Comment by: GR on 20th March 2014 at 23:30

I think we are being a bit unfair on you jay, I now realise you have a lisp. you keep saying thugby instead of rugby, dont be ashamed when you grow up it will go.

Comment by: Jay on 21st March 2014 at 09:27

More personal comments, after that performance last night I'm glad they don't associate Wigan thugby with the town of the FA cup holders.

When they win the greatest English competition, like the Latiics have done, then someone may actually start talking about them.

Comment by: FredG on 21st March 2014 at 14:13

"After that performance last night". I'm puzzled. Can you elaborate please.

Comment by: JDH on 21st March 2014 at 21:32

I'm glad they don't associate Wigan thugby with the town of the FA cup holders? Exactly who are "they"?

Comment by: Jay on 22nd March 2014 at 11:12

"People in general" Wigan is a football town, home of the FA cup holders and that's how genuine WIganers want the town to be known for. They don't want people saying "oh WIgan that's who have a rugby team with poor attendances and who have fans that cause trouble" isn't it.

Comment by: JDH on 22nd March 2014 at 12:31

So you're saying that tens of thousands of Wiganers aren't genuine Wiganers?

PS-You haven't answered FredG's question yet.

Comment by: Frank Healy on 22nd March 2014 at 21:50

Latics' average home attendances

1997-2003 Division 2
Highest 7,287(2002-03) Lowest 3,967(1997-98)

2003-05 Division 1/Championship 9,504; 11,571

2005-13 Premiership
Highest 20,609(2005-06) Lowest 16,976(2010-11)

Comment by: Jay on 23rd March 2014 at 10:38

You can bring attendances into as long as you like, the display against Warrington wasn't impressive and that's why the majority of WIganers will be talking about another magnificent win by the Latics, not the thugby.

Comment by: FredG on 23rd March 2014 at 14:31

Didn't you say that you couldn't bring yourself to watch Wigan (thugby)?

I can only assume that you weren't present at the Yeovil and Sheffield Wednesday games.

Comment by: Jay on 23rd March 2014 at 20:07

Yes I did, I use to watch them and take my kids with me but it's not safe, it's not a family game like the Latics is. I was at the Yeovil game.

I have also got my tickets for wembley , which is like the Latics second home, which will be a family occasion.

I'm not the only one who thinks this about the thugby, other people think it's on it's way out, look at the threads on the sports section.

Comment by: FredG on 23rd March 2014 at 21:47

Yet you watched the Warrington/Wigan game.
Didn't you also admit to being fairly young?
As an avid Latics' supporter why weren't you at the Sheffield Wednesday and Watford games?

Comment by: Frank Healy on 23rd March 2014 at 21:54

Wigan Observer/Wigan Evening Post

Comment by: GR on 24th March 2014 at 11:32

Im a little confused ? did you stop watching rugby because it wasn't safe for families due to all the thuggish behaviour before or after :YOU: wanted to kick somebodys fat backside off this site,

Comment by: B.Ellison on 24th March 2014 at 14:35

Jay. Were you present at the final game of the 2011-12 season against Wolves?

Comment by: Jay on 24th March 2014 at 18:28

I watched some of the Warrington game in the hope SL had improved, but it's not. No I did not admit to being "fairly young", when you have a family, like I do, it's not possible to see all the games you would like to see.

Please remind me when I "wanted to kick somebodys fat backside off this site".

Comment by: FredG on 24th March 2014 at 20:34

Yes you did. See my comment of 6th March and your reply of 9th March

Comment by: Frank Healy on 25th March 2014 at 00:06

Not just 1 but 3 major trophies.

Comment by: GR on 25th March 2014 at 11:50

I suggest you check your post on the sport forum for the 25th of February. You said ,We should kick his big fat backside of this site, Unlike you I don't make things up and also unlike you, I dont believe in labeling decent people thugs simply because you consider yourself an amusing wind up merchant. Believe me your posts prove your not amusing and certainly not clever.

Comment by: Frank Healy on 25th March 2014 at 23:28

Massed ranks of "Blue-and-Whites" or "Cherry-and-Whites" at last year's finals

Comment by: Jay on 26th March 2014 at 14:04

"since I was young, which is a while ago" please get it right.

If i have called someone a thug it's because I have seen them involved in trouble, wether it be on the field or in the ground.

I can see that the fact's are hurting you, but, Wigan has alway's been a football town.

Comment by: FredG on 26th March 2014 at 22:34

No! You get it right; it's there in black and white. End of my comment "Your comments are amusing; so much so that I'm guessing you're fairly young". Start of your reply "Amusing, but true"

Comment by: B.Ellison on 26th March 2014 at 22:58

Fred's right; it's there in black and white. We eagerly await you're comment.

Comment by: Jay on 27th March 2014 at 09:36

Amusing, but true, meaning my comments were amusing but they was true.

Again read it properly, "since I was young, which is a while ago"

Comment by: Frank Healy on 27th March 2014 at 10:32

These days, Wigan is, irrefutably, both a Football and a Rugby town.

Let's not forget Orrell RU (may the good times return), Wigan RU, Wigan CC etc.

Comment by: Harty on 11th April 2014 at 22:18

Hahaha laughable typical simple minded latics fan, had a bit if glory and think ur tommy ten men, well done on the fa cup 13 coz u have no hope in hells chance of doing it. Clearly very insecure to be attacking the greatest rugby league team of all time about crowds.
