Johnie Gaskell the butchers brother could easily beat the fairground boxers, the fairmen paid him up so he would not fight them
THE PLACE WHERE A LOT OF BRITAIN'S BEST BOXERS STARTED..
What year do you think this was Ron and is this Wigan or Bury as he looks to be squeezing two Black Puddings!!!!
Colin, maybe 1930's I was very good friends with a guy TOMMY MILLER who started off as Fair ground boxer in the 1930's. He originally came from Burnley and when he turned professional was known as THE BOY MILLER He later became a Promoter and Manager The stories he told were riveting.. When he died the BOXING NEWS did a special article all about him He knew EVERYONE associated with Boxing. I have a photo of me somewhere? wearing a LONSDALE BELT He was selling on behalf of a boxer I can't remember his name??
