the "Aussie Bloke" played for parramatta in Australia and was a terrific player in his day, Brett Kenny!

Get away Syd, it's not is it? I think Chatty knew who it was alright just a sarcy little comment from him i would say. Brilliant player but got his cup winners medal and couldn't wait to get back downunder.

i remember kenny before the game hands in pockets looking bored haha, cheers maurice lyndsay, well worth the the money to fly him and ferguson back for the game world class.

Comment by: Scholes malc on 17th July 2013 at 18:21

they did NOT fly back for the game - they were here for the season!

Comment by: JDH on 17th July 2013 at 19:25

Ferguson was the only one flown back for the final. My opinion of Brett Kenny - One of the "ALL TIME GREATS"

Comment by: chatty on 17th July 2013 at 22:19

Correct on both points jonno the picture actually appeared on the back page of the Sunday Mirror the day after the game, after someone pointed it out to me i went to their offices now the printworks in Manchester and ordered a copy of me with the great Brett Kenny.
But I also remember him playing in the old Premiership play off game a few days later and he touched tha ball about twice.

The game was against Saints and I think it was on the Monday and as Chatty says he did Zilch. Great player though.

Comment by: broady on 17th July 2013 at 22:40

Just checked it was actually Tuesday and they lost 37-14.

JDH is correct. Kenny stayed to the end of the season. Ferguson signed off scoring a brilliant long range try at Wilderspool, in the 2nd round, I think. He was then flown back for the final.

Comment by: broady on 18th July 2013 at 22:44

If you remember that long range try at Wilderspool Ferguson was flying and Kenny was just trotting alongside him!!!

my memory of Brett Kenny is forever soured by the events (or non events)of the saints game after Wembley .although he wasn't on his own many of the team didn't "turn up" as well

Comment by: broady on 18th July 2013 at 23:47

I never went to that game. I was working overseas at the time. I actually listened the Final on the "BBC World Service"

Looking back now though you can fully understand the players performances in a game 3 days after Wigans first challenge cup win for many a long year, and all that went with it! (Infact if it happened today you'd be lucky if the bookies let you put more than an ha'ppeny on a Saints win)

Comment by: Scholes Malc on 19th July 2013 at 16:17

Apologies and JDH is correct- Fergy did sign off with try in second round at the wire on the 23rd of Feb before returning for the final on the 4th of May
Broady – I have a copy of that photo – I will put it on tomorrow
Farrie – I was at Saints that night – apparently Kenny was under pressure from the wife to return ASAP as she did not like it ‘over here’; that night he already had one foot on the plane – one of the best stand-offs I have ever seen – he didn’t run...he glided!

Comment by: Scholes Malc on 19th July 2013 at 16:37

That try at Wire is at 2.20 on here - what a memory....
