A strong Wigan team, virtually all of whom went on to become established 1st team players, defeated Leigh 16-9 at Broughton Park. Mick Kenny kicked 3 penalties and Billy Williams a drop goal. The solitary try was claimed by Paul "Ronnie" Southern. The squad was:

What a cracking team this was, they are a couple of years older than me but I remember watching them when I was a lad.
